We are the International Max Planck Research School for Molecular and Cellular biology (IMPRS-MCB) - a joint international PhD program of the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology (MPI-IB) and the University of Freiburg. We are accepting new PhD students twice a year: in autumn and in spring.

We are looking for students interested in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a focus on

EPIGENETICS, IMMUNOBIOLOGY and CELL BIOLOGY

Our application is closed now- next chance to apply for PhD Autumn round opens on 1st April and closes on 17th May.

Our aim is to introduce you to the exciting field of world class science and to support your research spirit and your development into a successful scientist.
You can do your PhD in a lab of your choice at the Max Planck Institute or at the University of Freiburg – both excellent places to start your career.

  • The University of Freiburg is officially recognized as one of the German best universities (according to the Excellence Initiative).
  • The institutes of the Max Planck Society (MPS) are centres of cutting edge science. The MPS is an independent research institution in Germany; it takes up new and innovative research areas that German universities cannot fully deal with. Starting at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology gives you a unique perspective and set of skills for your future career.

AIM:
Our aim is to help you publish a first author publication from your work and to obtain an excellent PhD. To achieve this we offer you full material support (generous stipends and budgets for lab work), we organize intensive courses in scientific methods as well as in soft skills and we help you create a network with leading scientists from all over the world.

The IMPRS-MCB program was established in 2006 and currently 30 students – about two third of them from outside of Germany – take part in it. The official language of the institute and the program is English.
